Non è stata solo la disfatta in Champions del suo Manchester United a trasformare la notte di mercoledì, per Ryan Giggs, in un vero incubo. Mentre il calciatore si godeva la finale, un gruppo di malviventi ha fatto irruzione casa di sua mamma, che era con lui a Roma. Ad accorgersene la vicina 91enne, che ha subito avvisato la polizia e il giocatore. Al loro arrivo, gli agenti hanno sentito dei rumori, ma non sono riusciti a evitare la fuga del gruppo.

Nessun furto, comunque: nella casa era stato organizzato un festino a base di droga. "Abbiamo trovato tracce di assunzione di droga", hanno spiegato gli agenti, "la cosa strana è che non c'è nessun segno di infrazione: supponiamo che uno di loro avesse le chiavi di casa". Il che non farà dormire sonni tranquilli a Ryan Giggs nè alla madre di 51 anni, che nel frattempo sono tornati in patria per occuparsi dello spiacevole episodio. E che dovranno i dovuti ringraziamenti all'anziana ma prontissima vedetta cui hanno la fortuna di abitare accanto...

FIFA have confirmed every ticket put on general sale to watch Fabio Capello’s side has been snapped up.

Matches involving the Republic of Ireland, Brazil, Argentina, Holland and Australia are also sellouts.

Members of the England Supporters Club still get a chance to buy tickets if the Three Lions qualify.

A FIFA spokesman said: “There has been a huge demand. So it’s no longer possible within the current sales phase to buy tickets for Cape Town, Nelspruit and Pretoria.”

Allora perché non fare dello stadio Olimpico di Roma la sede permanente della finale della Champions League?». A chiederselo, in un editoriale, il quotidiano inglese Guardian, il giorno dopo la finale che ha visto la squadra inglese del Manchester soccombere al Barcellona.

«FASCINO IRRESISTIBILE» - «In Inghilterra - scrive il Guardian - la FA Cup si gioca sempre a Wembley. In Scozia, un ruolo simile è giocato da Hampden Park. Una finale di Champions League giocata ogni maggio a Roma avrebbe presto lo stesso irresistibile fascino». «Duemila anni dopo l'imperatore Augusto - scrive il Guardian - l'idea che tutte le strade portano a Roma ancora conserva un potente significato simbolico.... La capitale d'Italia ha un glamour e una vivacità con la quale poche città europee, e non certamente Bruxelles, possono competere.... Il confronto con la finale 2008 giocata Mosca, finita alla una ora locale, è tutto a favore di Roma». La domanda, per il Guardian, «è dunque ovvia: Perché non fare di Roma la sede fissa della finale di Champions?».

WAYNE Rooney’s special Champions League final boots were nicked by Manchester CITY fans, The Sun can reveal.

A team of City pranksters — in Rome to work — pulled off a cunning sting to intercept the T90 laser boots flown out by the striker’s sponsors Nike.

One of them dressed up to pose as a porter at the hotel where the United players were staying.

And as a courier arrived with the priceless footwear on Tuesday, he signed for the parcel and took it.

The trickster stashed the box in the back of his car and headed off to celebrate in a bar with his co-conspirators.

But their laughter did not last long after they went back to the car to find its windows broken and the boots stolen by local thieves — along with a load of their personal possessions.

A source in Rome said: “It was just good fun. They always planned to return the boots before the game.”

It is thought Rooney wore a replacement pair provided by Nike last night.
